Marlene Butler, long time organist for the First United Methodist Church, was also the primary accompanist for the MacDowell Male Chorus for many, many years. She was awarded honorary lifetime membership in the chorus for her contributions over the years.
On November 6th at 7:00PM the First United Methodist Church will be dedicating it's new Carillon in the name of Marlene Butler. This is an occasion towards which Marlene had worked diligently for many years prior to her passing.
MacDowell Male Chorus is proud to contribute to the joy and excitement of this dedication. The music we bring will honor Marlene and her contribution of services to both the liturgy and the arts of the Fox Valley.
Please join us as we celebrate a new beginning, and a fond rememberance of a woman with a heart as large as the Valley.
There is no charge for this concert though free-will offerings will be accepted at the church.
MacDowell Male Chorus has been a strong community arts performer in the Fox Valley area for 76 years. Albert Glockzin, a music professor at Lawrence University, founded this nonprofit, all-male chorus and conducted its first public concert in 1935.
Each year, MacDowell grants scholarships to graduating high school senior men who aspire to further their studies. These scholarships are awarded to soloists who demonstrate proficiency in singing and musical presentation. Auditions, using general music competition criteria, are the basis for scholarship awards.
